What Would You Use?

Preschoolers need to develop the ability to think about more than one object, event, or person at a time. Categorization activities that encourage children to group things that are in some way similar, like the sheet below, are an excellent way to do this.

I've selected pictures that represent objects that can be used to clean, draw or cook. Before your child starts to categorize, I would ask them identify each object. Then have your child follow the directions by sorting the objects according to their use.

I've included a picture of an apron in the group to really get your child to think. Since the apron could be included in all three categories, it will have a circle, square, and triangle around it when your child completes all three tasks. That visual clue should help them answer the question "What object could you use to do all three?"

To Print:  Double click on the sheet to open it. Then right click and choose Print Picture.
